There are over 20,000 Karen people and other refugees from Burma living in St. Paul, Maplewood, Roseville, and the surrounding area. Since the first Karen refugees came here in 2000, there have been over two dozen Karen-owned businesses established. Support the Karen community by visiting these businesses, including grocery stores, restaurants, and auto shops. In 2025, the first Karenni-owned grocery store opened in Maplewood.
