KOM Services during COVID-19

KOM’s physical office remains closed to the public to protect the health of our staff, volunteers, visitors, and their families. KOM staff are working remotely with limited access to our office and have access to email.

The COVID-19 Hotline is live at 651-318-0989 and available in these languages: Somali, Oromo, Arabic, Spanish, Anuak, Amharic, Karen, Swahili, French, Lingala, Luganda, Mashi and Hindi. Karen speakers will be transferred to KOM staff, Jackie Chan.

We are currently in Phase One of our reopening plan through the end of 2020. Read below for more info about Phase One.

On-Call Schedule

We have set up an on-call schedule for people to call in with any questions or service needs between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

All callers with immediate needs should call our main office line at 651-788-7953. They will then be connected with an available on-call staff. If we are busy with other calls at that moment and can’t answer your call, please make sure to leave a message with your name and phone number so our staff can call you back.

Services available by phone include: health insurance enrollment and verification; applying for medical fee waivers; identifying primary care providers; public benefits enrollment and maintenance; unemployment insurance; housing issues; elders and caregivers case management, and more.

KOM Programs

Our staff have adapted their programs so that they are able to continue checking in and meeting virtually and over the phone.

Plans to Reopen

Our Safety Committee is working on a plan to return safely to the office. Know that we will continue to provide remote service while we work to incrementally reopen.

First, we are looking to offer limited, by-appointment-only, curbside services starting in June. This will be Phase One.

For Phase Two, we will start to bring a small number of staff into the office to meet with clients by appointment only.

We are reading the situation and planning as we must, so stay tuned for details and developments.

Phase One

Beginning Monday, June 29, phase one of our return to work will begin. Some of our current policies will remain in effect, and some new services will be introduced.

What is new?

We are adding the option to serve clients through curbside appointments. Appointments can only be made when clients cannot be served remotely, and must be scheduled ahead.

The procedure for curbside appointments will be simple. Clients will call to schedule their appointment. On the day of, they will complete a COVID-19 screening over the phone.

At the appointment, clients will wait in the car while staff comes to collect their documents. Staff members will bring their documents back into the office to complete necessary tasks, then return them to the client at their car. If there are additional questions, staff will call clients on their phone.

What is the same?

Until we can return to full normalcy, KOM’s safety measures will remain in place.

This means clients will not be allowed in the office (hence curbside appointments). Staff will continue to work from home, and the on-call schedule will remain in place.

As the situation evolves, we will continue to adhere to the best practices possible to ensure safety of all our staff and clients.
