Ehkalu Sein join KOM as a BSW Intern in September 2020

Ehkalu Sein is a proud first-generation college student. She studies Social Work at St. Cloud State University and is minoring in Human Relations. Ehkalu is very happy to intern at KOM and have the opportunity to serve and work with the Karen community and other refugees from Burma. It has always been her passion to work with the refugee/immigrant population because of her experience as being one of them.

Ehkalu loves going on road trips with friends, even if it’s a short one. She enjoys doing outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, biking, and going for walks. She loves all kinds of food, but for her, nothing can beat rice and nya u htee (fish paste). Ehkalu says, “A fun fact about me is I either have fun all day, or I hibernate all year.”

One of her biggest dreams is to work with the United Nations one day and specifically with UNICEF. To explain, Ehkalu shares a quote from Nelson Mandela which says, “children are our greatest treasure. They are our future”.
