Learn What the Executive Order on Refugee Resettlement Means

Dear friends and supporters of KOM,

On January 27, President Trump signed an Executive Order suspending refugee resettlement for at least 120 days and halting all travel to the U.S. from 7 Middle Eastern and African countries. This order took effect immediately.

The Refugee Center Online has posted summaries in English, Karen, and 11 other languages explaining what this will mean for refugees in the U.S. and those still waiting to come. Please visit this link and share this information with other community members.

If you know a refugee or immigrant who is is traveling to the U.S. and may be affected by this order, please email John Keller at the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. ILCM is coordinating advocacy with multiple legal aid groups.

We are proud to be part of a large, diverse refugee community that contributes greatly to this country. We are disheartened by this order and the many ways that it will affect refugees worldwide. We are talking with other organizations to find out exactly what this will mean for refugees from Burma and for KOM. We will keep you updated as we learn more. Thank you for all that you do to create a welcoming home for refugees in Minnesota!

– Alexis Walstad and Eh Tah Khu, Co-Executive Directors
