Synthia was born in a Karenni refugee camp and moved to the U.S. in 2013. She initially arrived in North Carolina and later moved to Minnesota with her family.  Synthia graduated from Metropolitan State University with a degree in Human Services. Before graduating, she completed her human services internship at KOM, partly in-person, and then remotely when the pandemic hit in March 2020.

After Synthia graduated from university, she started working at Community Care Service. She worked with low income families, elders, and people with disabilities (mostly White and Black Americans), specifically with searching for houses, providing rides, and making phone calls. Synthia really enjoyed working there. However, her goal was to work in her Karen community with people who need help. Synthia then started working at Vietnamese Social Services as a Karen Family Support staff. She assisted Karen families with public assistance and Xcel energy assistance, reading mail, interpreting, and making phone calls. Synthia joined KOM as a full-time staff at the end of 2020 as a Social Service Coordinator.
