Rebekah Jacobson, Community Engagement Specialist
Rebekah Jacobson is from Hanover, MN and graduated from North Central University in May 2015 with a B.A. in communication arts and a minor in international development. In 2014, she traveled to Thailand for three months with a nonprofit and met Karen refugees for the first time. When she arrived back in the Twin Cities, she learned that there were over 10,000 Karen people living in her own city. Her discovery sparked an interest in learning as much as possible about Karen people, which eventually led to a volunteer position at the Karen Organization of Minnesota. In August 2015, she moved into a staff position at KOM as an AmeriCorps VISTA doing community engagement work. She has also been volunteering for Twin Cities World Refugee Day and Arrive Ministries since 2015. Since working at KOM, she has developed a strong passion to advocate for and share the stories of refugees. She loves the Karen community and hopes to work with other refugee communities in the future.
