Mar Htay was born in Myanmar, however, due to the Burmese persecution, his family was forced to move to a refugee camp in Thailand. He and his family lived in a Thai refugee camp for almost a decade until his family obtained a visa to move to the United States. In 2010, Mar resettled in Rochester, New York where he attended school. After high school, Mar attended Principia College in Elsah, IL. There, he earned a BA in Global Studies and a minor in Political Science.

Mar is very passionate about helping his people and giving back to his community. In summer 2019, he interned at Mary’s Place Refugee Outreach as a Case Manager to help refugees with a variety of tasks, such as translation, billing, completing and submitting SNAP Applications, secure housing, finding and applying for jobs. Mar is very pleased to join the Karen Organization of Minnesota as Youth Case Manager.
