Laymu John was born in June 1992 in Mae Hong Son, a Karenni refugee camp in Thailand. She came to the United States in 2009 as a refugee and first settled in Forth Worth, TX. Laymu lived in Forth Worth for a little over 1 year and moved to Minnesota in 2011. She attended LEAP High School and got her high school diploma in 2013.

She worked as an employment navigator through the Minnesota Opportunity Corps program at KOM from 2013-2014. From 2014-2015, she worked at Minnesota Math and Science Academy as a Teacher’s Aid where she assisted students in class. She is very pleased to join the Karen Organization of Minnesota again.

Laymu currently serves the community as a Family Assister. She helps new arrivals and connects people to health insurance resources as an MNsure Outreach Coordinator. She also oversees the new arrival programs as the Program Manager. “You have two hands. One to help yourself, and the second to help others.”
