Laurel St. Marie Durushia, Career Pathways Employment Counselor
Laurel is originally from a small town in north central Minnesota and has been a part of the St. Paul community for six years. She recently graduated from Metropolitan State University May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with an emphasis in Cultural Anthropology and refugee/immigrant community building. Her most recent community work includes teaching English Language Learners at the Hmong Cultural Center in St. Paul to a diverse student base.
Before coming to the Karen Organization of Minnesota, Laurel’s previous experience has been in the service industry, particularly the finance sector. Joining the non-profit sector has been a dream for Laurel for several years and is excited to contribute to the Karen community.
Beyond building strong refugee and immigrant communities, Laurel is a passionate traveler. She enjoys exploring flora and fauna through outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
