Employment Counselor (Bilingual Dari, Pashto, Farsi, or Ukrainian)

Job Location: Hybrid between office, remote sites around the Twin Cities, and virtually from home
Status: Full-time and Part-time openings available, primary work hours between 8:30AM-5:00PM with occasional nights & weekends
Salary: $21.00 – $24.00 per hour

Position Summary: Help newly arrived immigrants find stability through employment and on-going job upgrades. The Employment Counselor will recruit and enroll eligible humanitarian protected immigrants (refugees, asylees, some parolees, SIV holders, etc.) into KOM’s New Arrival Services. This position will actively support participants in enhancing work readiness skills through one-on-one coaching and leading group pre-placement orientation workshops. They will complete participant household assessments, establish employment goals with participants, and ultimately assist clients with finding sustainable employment while providing on-going coaching to help participants advance in their careers within the first five years of resettlement. This position will use computers daily to track participant progress across multiple data systems and for remote work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to speak, read and write fluently in English and one or more of the following: Dari, Pashto, Farsi and/or Ukrainian
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Open communication and good listening skills
  • Able to work independently and build long-term relationships with clients and employers
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable vehicle, proof of insurance and clean driving record. Must be willing to use personal vehicle to provide transportation for clients
  • Experience using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, internet browsers and maintaining records using database software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-year experience in employment services, human resources, coaching, job training, or other case management
  • Understanding of immigrant and refugee employment experiences and needs
  • Knowledge of Twin Cities employers offering employment opportunities and job advancement to immigrant populations
  • Experience with US post-secondary education systems
  • Recently arrived Afghan and Ukrainian individuals with previous experience that demonstrates needed skills for this role are highly encouraged to apply!

COVID Protocols: KOM requires employees to be vaccinated as a condition of employment, subject to reasonable accommodation required by law. All vaccination doses must have been received at least fourteen days prior to starting employment. KOM requires and provides masks, social distancing, sanitizes common services regularly and is currently open to in-person services to vaccinated clients. As roles and responsibilities allow, most staff are working a hybrid schedule with some days in the office and some days work from home to allow for appropriate social distancing while working at KOM sites. Hybrid work arrangements are subject to change based on KOM’s protocols, the needs of specific roles, and the needs of those that KOM serves.
