We offer short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities in a variety of positions. KOM volunteers assist with youth mentoring, interpretation/translation, data entry, public transit training, driving clients to appointments and more. Current Volunteer Positions
Karen Interpreter – Are you bilingual in Karen and English languages? KOM is looking for an interpreter to assist our Ramsey County Financial Worker on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00-4:00pm at KOM’s office. The interpreter will interpret for walk-in clients and learn about Ramsey County public assistance programs. Fluency in Sgaw Karen and English required; fluency in Karenni, Pwo Karen, Burmese or Thai a plus. 3-month minimum commitment.
Volunteer Receptionist – Are you bilingual in Karen and English languages? KOM is looking for a volunteer receptionist to staff the front desk on Tuesday mornings from 8:30am-12:00pm at KOM’s office. The receptionist will answer phone calls, help clients make appointments with KOM staff, and translate documents. Fluency in Sgaw Karen and English required; fluency in Karenni, Pwo Karen, Burmese or Thai a plus. 3-month minimum commitment.
CNA Tutor – Are you interested in helping refugee students receive their CNA certification? KOM is looking for adults to work one-on-one or in small groups with students to help them study material for a 16-week CNA certification training. CNA tutors will help students build their reading comprehension skills, study for the CNA certification exam, and practice techniques for taking multiple choice tests. CNA tutors will volunteer at the Roseville Adult Learning Center at least one day a week in the evenings. CNA tutors will commit to a 2-month period starting now until the end of May (but have the option to continue with the next class from July - October).
Volunteer Driver - Are you interested in providing transportation for refugees? KOM is looking for adults who are 25 years old or older and have a good driving record to be volunteer drivers. Volunteer drivers will drive the KOM van to pick up clients at their homes and drop them off at KOM's office, schools, and other community centers for KOM program activities. They will also drive the clients back home after the activity. Volunteer drivers must be available during weekdays and willing to work on an on-call schedule.
