ပှၤပိာ်မုၣ်လၢအထါတၢ်သ့ၣ်တဖၣ် ဟ့ၣ်စ့ၢ်ကီးတၢ်သိၣ်လိဘၣ်ဃး တၢ်ထါထၣ်ဆူပှၤဘၣ်ကီဘၣ်ခဲ သူၣ်ဘီၣ်သးစၢ် လၢအထီၣ်တီၤထီကၠိသ့ၣ်တဖၣ်အဂီၢ်န့ၣ်လီၤ. ပှၤပိာ်မုၣ်သ့ၣ်တဖၣ်နာ်ဝဲလၢ တၢ်ထါထၣ်မ့ၢ်တၢ်လၢ အရ့ဒိၣ်ဒိၣ်မးတမံၤလၢ တၢ်ကပၢၤဃာ်အီၤအဃိ အဝဲသ့ၣ််တဖၣ်သးအိၣ် ဟ့ၣ်နီၤလီၤတၢ်သ့တၢ်ဘၣ်အံၤဆူ ဖိလံၤလၢခံတစိၤအအိၣ်န့ၣ်လီၤ. လၢအပူၤကွံာ်, ပှၤပိာ်မုၣ်သ့ၣ်တဖၣ် သိၣ်လိတ့ၢ်တၢ်ထါထၣ်ဆူပှၤကၠိဖိလၢ အထီၣ် Washington Technology Magnet School, LEAP High School, and Humboldt High School သ့ၣ်တဖၣ်အအိၣ်န့ၣ်လီၤ.
ကျိၣ်စ့တၢ်မၤစၢၤလၢတၢ်ရဲၣ်တၢ်ကျဲၤအံၤအဂီၢ်ဟဲခီဖျိလၢ Minnesota State Arts Board အအိၣ်န့ၣ်လီၤ.
The Weaving Circle provides refugees with a space to practice, teach, and sell traditional Karen weaving. The Weaving Circle is a collaboration of KOM, Roseville Adult Learning Center, East Side Freedom Library, and the Weavers Guild of Minnesota.
The women in the Weaving Circle meet weekly at the East Side Freedom Library to weave, socialize, and receive case management. The women bring their projects back to their homes during the week to continue weaving. Many of the women learned to weave in Burma or Thailand when they were children. Throughout the year, the women participate in local art fairs such as the Swede Hollow Art Fair, the Saint Paul Art Crawl, and Little Mekong Night Market. They sell woven products such as bags, shirts, sarongs, table runners, scarves, and dresses. View our calendar to find out about upcoming art sales.
The women also teach Karen weaving to refugee youth at local high schools. The women believe it is important to preserve this art form, so they want to pass it down to the next generation. For the 2017 Weaving Exhibit, the 2017 summer weaving class students created a booklet outlining weaving instructions. The booklet is available here. The women have also taught at various Saint Paul Public Schools in partnership with our youth programs.
