Enhancing the quality of life for Karen and other refugees from Burma in Minnesota

Media Advisory: 1st Annual KOM Gala

September 1, 2011

Dear friend of Karen Organization of Minnesota,

The Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM) cordially invites you to join us for the 1st Annual KOM Gala which will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Hamline University’s Klas Center, in the Kay Fredericks Room (3rd floor). Special thanks to the McVay Youth Partnership at Hamline University for co-hosting this event.

The evening will begin with a social hour from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Dress will be business attire or evening wear. A cash bar serving beer & wine as well as non-alcoholic drinks will be available and for those interested a silent auction will offer many unique items. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m., followed by a short program featuring a special welcome by Hamline University’s first Karen students. After dinner, guests will have time to finalize their silent auction bids by 8:15 p.m. The cash bar will close at 8:30 p.m. and silent auction winners will also be announced at that time. The evening will end at 9:00 p.m.

This gala is an opportunity to highlight our partnerships and accomplishments over the last year. There may be a surprise or two along the way so come prepared to have some fun and learn more about the brave plight of the Karen and other refugees from Burma. We wish to extend a special invitation to individuals who have not yet had the pleasure of getting to know our new neighbors.
